Key takeaways
  • Iran’s gold market quotes 18k gold per gram, wholesale gold per mesghal (mazaneh) and gold coins with their own premium.
  • The EZRate API exposes each as a symbol (`g18`, `g24`, `mesghal`, `ounce`, `emami`, `bahar`, `nim`, `rob`, `gerami`) with buy/sell prices in Toman, Rial or USD.
  • With these feeds you can compute intrinsic value, coin bubble and full jewellery invoices in code.

Gold is the second most watched price in Iran after the dollar, and it is quoted in more ways than any other asset: per gram, per mesghal, per ounce, per coin. A useful Iran gold price API has to expose all of them consistently. This guide shows the symbols, requests and formulas you need.

★
Short answer
Request GET /v1/rates?symbols=g18,g24,mesghal,ounce,emami,bahar,nim,rob,gerami. g18 is one gram of 18k gold in Toman; mesghal is the Tehran wholesale price (mazaneh) of one mesghal of 705-fineness gold; ounce is the global XAU/USD; coins are full prices including their premium. Pass quote=usd to price gold in free-market dollars.

Formulas you will need

Intrinsic value of 18k gold from the ounce

python
OUNCE_G = 31.1035

def g18_intrinsic(ounce_usd: float, usd_irt: float) -> float:
    return ounce_usd / OUNCE_G * usd_irt * 0.75

The gap between the market g18 and this value is the gold bubble. Background: XAU/USD and Tehran 18k gold.

Mazaneh to 18k gram

python
def g18_from_mazaneh(mazaneh: float) -> float:
    # 4.6083 g per mesghal × (750 / 705) ≈ 4.3318
    return mazaneh / 4.3318

Coin intrinsic value and bubble

python
COINS = {"emami": 8.133, "bahar": 8.133, "nim": 4.0665, "rob": 2.033, "gerami": 1.01}

def coin_bubble(symbol: str, coin_price: float, g18_price: float) -> float:
    pure_gold_g = COINS[symbol] * 0.900
    intrinsic = pure_gold_g / 0.75 * g18_price   # value at the 18k market price
    return coin_price / intrinsic - 1            # e.g. 0.07 = 7% premium

Pricing jewellery

A jewellery invoice in Iran = gold value + making charge (ojrat) + seller profit + VAT on (making charge + profit). With the live g18 price, a shop can calculate invoices automatically:

javascript
function invoice({ grams, g18, makingPct, profitPct, vatPct }) {
  const gold = grams * g18;
  const making = gold * makingPct;
  const profit = (gold + making) * profitPct;
  const vat = (making + profit) * vatPct; // VAT rate changes by year — make it configurable
  return { gold, making, profit, vat, total: gold + making + profit + vat };
}

For a no-code option, gold shops can embed a ready-made widget or price board: see the exchange office and gold shop display guide.

Choosing the right reference price

Different businesses quote gold from different references, and mixing them is the most common source of disputes. A jewellery shop sells by the 18k gram, so g18 is its natural reference. Wholesale traders quote the mazaneh (mesghal), and melted-gold (abshodeh) pieces are priced from it with their assayed fineness. Investors comparing Iranian gold with world prices need ounce together with usd. When your product shows more than one of these, label each clearly and never convert between them without stating the formula you used.

Updating prices safely

  • Gold moves with both the global ounce and the Tehran dollar, so prices can change several times an hour on busy days. Refresh at least every few minutes while the market is open.
  • Respect low_sources: at night or on holidays, keep the last confirmed price and show a notice instead of repricing.
  • Cap automatic changes per cycle (for example 3%) and send larger moves for manual confirmation in your shop system.
  • Show the time of the price on invoices; customers trust a number that carries its timestamp.

If you only need to display prices, the widgets and the rate board give you the same data without writing code.
