The Turkish lira in Iran’s market
The lira is Turkey’s currency. Turkey is a major destination for Iranian travel, study, property purchases and trade, which makes the lira one of the most traded currencies in Iranian exchange offices.
How the lira price in Toman is formed
The lira floats freely and has lost value against the dollar in recent years because of high inflation in Turkey. Its Toman price is roughly the free-market dollar divided by USD/TRY, so both the dollar in Iran and the lira in Turkey affect it.
What moves the lira
- Turkish inflation and central-bank interest-rate policy.
- Changes in Iran’s free-market dollar.
- Travel season and demand from tourists and students.
- The Tehran–Istanbul price gap, which EZRate shows separately.
How EZRate calculates the rate
EZRate bots are members of active trading groups and channels and read their buy and sell messages every minute. Quotes that deviate from the market median by more than the allowed band (±1% by default) are discarded and a weighted median of the rest is published. When too few valid sources are available, the rate is flagged as “low sources” so you always know how reliable it is.
