The gold price in Iran for every karat is shown in the table above, updated every minute from the gold ounce, the dollar to Toman rate and gold-trader medians. The gold price today in Toman depends on both the world ounce and the free-market dollar, so a rise in either moves every karat at once.
18k gold: the Iranian benchmark
In Iran “the gold price” usually means the 18k gold price per gram, the jewellery standard. Jewellers add a making fee, profit and VAT on top of the raw gold value, so the price you pay in a shop is higher than the 18k gold price shown here; use the calculator on the 18k page for the final price.
24k gold price, mesghal and ounce
The 24k gold price is the value of almost pure gold and is used for bullion and investment bars. The gold mesghal price (mesghal = 4.3318 g of 18k-equivalent gold) is how melted gold is traded in the Tehran bazaar, and the gold ounce price (ounce) is the world benchmark in US dollars that all Iranian gold prices follow. See also 22k and 21k gold.
How the gold price is calculated
18k per gram ≈ ounce × free-market dollar ÷ 31.1035 × 0.75. When Tehran gold traders quote a different price, the gap with this formula is shown as the gold bubble on each karat page. For coins see the coin price page and the silver price for another precious metal.
Buying gold in Iran: practical tips
- Compare the shop price with the raw 18k gold price on this page; the gap is the making fee, profit and VAT.
- Melted gold and coins have no making fee, so they are cheaper for saving than jewellery.
- Ask for an invoice with weight, karat and fee, and check the bubble on the karat page before a large purchase.
- Set a free price alert to be notified when gold reaches your target price.
